Our Lady of the Mountains Parish in Whistler is offering a few Pilgrimage options this summer called the Holy Family Camino.
What is a pilgrimage? It is a journey to a destination to remind us of our ultimate Journey in life. It is basically a walking retreat where we give God the opportunity of speaking to our lives and to do some of the necessary repairs.
Our first Camino of the Holy Family is July 22-24: Brandy Wine Falls to Our Lady of the Mountains Church (OLOM), total distance 25 Km.
Accommodation: Camping first night, Hostel second night.
There will be daily Mass and a retreat format to help you get the most out of the pilgrimage.
Cost: around 60 $ for your different accommodations. You are required to have your own food and gear.
Friday: Brandy Wine Falls to Cal-Check Crossing 5 Km
Saturday: Cal-Check to Whistler Hi Hostel in Cheakamus 10 Km
Sunday: Hi Hostel to OLOM 10 Km
Second Camino of the Holy Family Aug 5-7: Mount Currie to OLOM, total distance 42 Km
Accommodation: Camping two nights, free.
Friday: St Christopher’s Church to St Francis of Assisi Church 10 Km
Saturday: St Francis of Assisi to Rock Garden 15 Km
Sunday: Rock Garden to OLOM 15Km
There will be daily Mass and a retreat format to help you get the most out of the pilgrimage.
Third Camino of the Holy Family Aug 22-27: St Joseph’s, Squamish to Our Lady of the Mountains, total distance 90 Km. You will want to be in good shape for this one as you have to pack your gear and supplies for the whole time. A well packed person could get away with a 15-kilo pack including water.
Accommodation: Wilderness camping five nights.
Monday: St Joseph’s to Levette Lake 12 km, elevation gain 800 meters
Tuesday: Levette Lake to Queen of Peace Monastery 10 km (rough terrain day) gain 300 meters, loss 600 meters
Wednesday: Queen of Peace Monastery to Salvation Lake 15 Km, elevation gain 650 meters, loss 470 meters
Thursday: Salvation Lake to Garibaldi Lake 15 Kms, elevation gain 1200 meters
Friday: Garibaldi Lake to Helm Creek 15 km
Saturday: Helm Creek to Our Lady of the Mountains 25 Km
There will be daily Mass and a retreat format to help you get the most out of the pilgrimage.
Cost: Levette Lake 18$ per campsite up to six (Garibaldi and Helm creek are 6 dollars per tent pad and need a reservation.
